Joan and Arthur's Leaving Presentation

on Saturday 26th of January 2002

Thanks to Justin for the following five images.

And here is Anne's ode from that evening.

ODE for JOAN and ARTHUR

Can it be more than thirteen years since you first opened your doors,
And villagers who love their beers beat the path from ‘theirs’ to ‘yours’?
A ‘Sign of Spring’ would tell us that our drinking year’d begun.
And after long hot summer days a ‘Piddle in the Sun.’
‘Tally Ho’ to Christmas, the bar all warm and cosy.
‘Winter Warmer’, ‘Winter Mild’ and dear old ‘Rosy Nosy.’
The Sunday roast down at the Vine is famous county wide.
In fact I’ve had so many now I have a large ‘Broadside.’
But now, dear Joan, it’s sad to say your cooking here is over.
And shed a tear for Arthur, without his ‘Old Legover.’
Remember us in happy times with lady ‘Betty Stoggs’,
A motley crew who like a drink and think you are ‘The Dogs.
We wish you health and happiness, you will be sorely missed,
But for tonight, just one more time, come on let’s all get .....

(Anne stated that she was lost for a rhyme at this point !)
